Renewable Energy Market InfrastructureComplete, Nationwide CoverageAPX systems provide complete coverage for renewable energy certificate (REC) creation, management and transactions across North America to facilitate the continued dramatic growth of clean energy generation and usage. All participants in the North American renewable energy markets - regardless of location - are now able to take advantage of a trusted infrastructure to help manage their role in the market. With the ability to create unique, serialized records for every REC, these registries provide the greatest product transparency, accountability and protection against double counting. APX renewable energy market systems include: Michigan Renewable Energy Certification System (MIRECS) The Michigan Renewable Energy Certification System (MIRECS) creates, tracks and enables trading of environmental credits through a unique, traceable digital certificate issued for every megawatt hour (MWh) of qualifying energy generated by facilities registered with MIRECS or imported into MIRECS. These credits include Michigan Renewable Energy Credits (RECs), Advanced Cleaner Energy Credits (ACECs), Michigan Incentive Renewable Energy Credits (ICs) and Energy Optimization Credits (EOCs) which fall under the state’s Clean, Renewable and Efficient Energy Act. The system will also support linkages with other state and regional renewable energy market programs. M-RETS tracks renewable generation located within the state and provincial boundaries of Illinois, Iowa, Manitoba, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. It also tracks Renewable Resource Credits (RRCs) for the State of Wisconsin. M-RETS is an easy to use, Web-based system open for use by power generators, utilities, marketers and qualified reporting entities wishing to participate in the M-RETS market. The NEPOOL GIS issues and tracks certificates for each MWh of generation produced in the ISO New England control area, including imports from neighboring control areas, and all load served. Each NEPOOL GIS certificate, in addition to renewable attributes, tracks eight types of emissions (including CO2). The system also provides certificate based tracking for energy efficiency from combined heat and power assets, demand response, congestion and load management programs in the state. In 2005 PJM, which spans all or parts of 13 states implemented a centralized registry and accounting system or Generation Attribute Tracking System (GATS) which that enables renewable electricity markets and information disclosure of generation attributes including environmental, emissions, and fuel attributes.PJM Interconnection ensures the reliability of the high-voltage electric power system serving 51 million people in all or parts of Delaware, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. WREGIS, established in June 2007 and administered by the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), is an accounting system designed to issue, register and track RECs to verify compliance with regulatory requirements and participation in voluntary market programs throughout the western United States. WECC oversees electric reliability for more than 71 million people in 14 western states, two Canadian provinces, and the Northern portion of Baja, Mexico. APX’s market platform serves as the foundation for renewable energy certificate trading across the WECC region. Instituted mandatory REC trading through legislative mandate in 1999. These rules made it the responsibility of electricity retailers to acquire and retire RECs based on their pro rata share of state-wide retail electricity sales. The Texas REC system enables electricity retailers from any area of the state to seek out the lowest cost renewable resources without having to take physical delivery of the associated electricity. North American Renewables Registry™ For states and provinces not covered by the markets described above, North American Renewables provides REC origination for clean generation facilities and full registry services. The Registry enables corporations to demonstrate climate change leadership through the use of renewable energy while fully substantiating these environmental claims. Companies benefit from the ability to easily track and manage their portfolio of RECs including the calculation and tracking of carbon avoidance attributes in the new Registry. Similarly, renewable energy retailers and brokers can use the Registry’s services to conduct REC transactions, enhance the level of visibility, integrity, trust, and quality perception for their clients, and reduce the cost of manual and paper processes to track RECs and documents.
