Our Management Team

Brian M. Storms
Chairman & CEO

Brian Storms joined APX in January 2008 to help accelerate the firm’s growth and to realize its vision as the infrastructure backbone and provider of choice for the energy and environmental commodities markets.

Mr. Storms has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, spanning such diverse disciplines as sales, marketing, and distribution; new product innovation; operations; and risk management and insurance.  He has successfully launched and grown new businesses, led complex change management programs, articulated powerful new branding and positioning strategies, and navigated some of the most highly regulated and transparent marketplaces in the world.

Prior to joining APX, Brian was CEO of Marsh Inc., the worlds leading risk advisory and insurance brokerage firm, with revenues of $5 billion and 26,000 employees.  He was also a member of the executive committee of Marsh’s public company parent, Marsh & McLennan (MMC).  While at Marsh, Brian was a committed advocate on the issue of climate change, including collaboration and participation with numerous high profile partners and initiatives, such as: the Clinton Global Initiative; the U.S. Climate Action Partnership; the Business Environmental Leadership Council of the Pew Center for Climate Change; and Ceres.

Before moving over to lead Marsh, Brian was President and CEO of MMC sister company, Mercer Human Resource Consulting, which he joined in late 2004.  Prior to Mercer, Brian was President and CEO of UBS Global Asset Management – Americas, and a member of the UBS Group Managing Board.  From 1996-1999, he was President of the Prudential Investments mutual fund and annuity complex and a member of the Prudential Securities Board, and from 1991-1996 Brian held various senior positions with Fidelity Investments, culminating with the successful launch of Fidelity’s International Retirement Group.  Brian began his career as an account executive for E.F. Hutton in New York.  He earned his BS in economics from the State University of New York, Stony Brook.

 

John Melby
President

Mr. Melby has provided the instrumental leadership enabling APX to become the infrastructure platform of choice for all major renewable energy markets in North America and  greenhouse gas markets worldwide.

During his tenure at APX, Mr. Melby has led the operations, sales, product development, and marketing groups. Prior to joining APX, he was Senior Director of Marketing and Product Development for the California Power Exchange. He has also held a leadership role at the consulting practices of M & R Strategic Services, a political consulting firm based in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Melby is a frequently requested expert speaker on the development of environmental markets worldwide and has also published papers on significant issues for the deregulated power industry including an award winning paper on the practical experience of transmission pricing within an Independent System Operator.

Mr. Melby holds a degree from Brown University and completed the management program for executives at the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

 

Reiner Musier
CMO & Vice President

Reiner Musier has more than 17 years experience in business-to-business software technology development, product management, marketing, strategic planning, and sales. Prior to joining APX, Reiner was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Siemens Corporation division providing energy industry solutions for strategic and financial planning, energy trading and risk management, power market operations solutions, and market simulation. Previously, Reiner was Vice President of Product Marketing at AspenTechnology, a provider of modeling, simulation, optimization, and operations software and services to the petroleum, process, and pharmaceutical industries.

Dr. Musier holds Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a B.S. degree from Northwestern University. He also completed the Wharton Management Program - a two-year certificate program for executives, and a one year post graduate fellowship at the Universitaet Karlsruhe in Germany.

 

Russell Wong
CFO & Vice President

Russell Wong joined APX in May 2004 and serves as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance and Administration.  Mr. Wong brings over 17 years of accomplishments in corporate finance, business development, and business advisory services to APX. In addition to his responsibilities as CFO, Mr. Wong is responsible for APX’s settlement services.

Prior to joining APX, Mr. Wong provided financial advisory services to various public and privately-held technology companies, served as controller and vice president of financial strategies at Intend Change, a venture construction firm, and was the director of worldwide mergers and acquisitions for USWeb, an Internet professional services firm. He also worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he specialized in serving technology companies and worked with clients in the successful completion of a number of M&A and public equity offerings.  Mr. Wong earned a Bachelor’s degree in economics with a minor in management from the University of California, Irvine and is a licensed CPA in California.

 

Gary S. Guzy
General Counsel

Mr. Guzy is responsible for directing APX’s legal strategy and leads the Company’s worldwide regulatory and government affairs program. 

Most recently, Guzy served as Global Practice Leader for Climate Risk and Sustainability at Marsh, a leading global risk management and insurance brokerage firm.  During his tenure, he managed the firm’s comprehensive climate and sustainability program, working closely with clients around the world to identify and address emerging environmental risks and trends. 

Previously, Guzy served as the top legal official at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 1998 to 2001.  In this role, he helped implement new environmental policies, including establishing air pollution and tailpipe emissions programs and ensuring the protection of the Florida Everglades.  He also authored climate change provisions that were later ratified by the U.S. Supreme Court in its landmark 2007 decision finding that greenhouse gases are pollutants under federal law. 

Guzy is also an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Law at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he currently teaches the law school’s first-ever course on climate change.  He serves on the advisory board of the Environmental Law and Policy Review as well as on the green advisory committees of the Urban Land Institute and Greater Washington Board of Trade.  He received a B.A, magna cum laude, from Cornell University, and earned his J.D., cum laude, from Cornell Law School. 

 

Roger Yang
Vice President

Mr. Yang joined APX in June 2002 and is the Vice President of Power Market Operations. His responsibilities include executive oversight of APX’s Power Market solutions, including technology product development, the IT hosting infrastructure, scheduling and settlement operation services, professional services, account management, and sales. Previously, he was a consultant with MRW & Associates, a director at Enron Energy Services, and held various positions at Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

Mr. Yang has over 18 years of energy industry experience, including providing expert consulting to market participants, participating in regulatory proceedings, restructuring of wholesale power markets, and providing energy solutions for retail customers. He has experience working with competitive retail electric energy suppliers, independent power producers, private and public utilities, project developers, and end-use electric customers. He holds a Bachelor’s degree with a double major in economics and legal studies from the University of California, Berkeley.

 

Heather Sanders
Managing Director

Ms. Sanders joined APX in 2004 and is responsible for defining APX business intelligence offerings and the APX platform, investigating and executing strategic partnerships, overseeing the selection and implementation of BI industry standard toolsets, and the design and development of electricity specific use cases supporting participation in the competitive electricity market. 

During the last decade she has worked exclusively in the deregulated electricity industry with APX, The Structure Group, and Andersen Consulting (now Accenture).  Her roles at former employers included Director consulting services, nMarketTM product manager, and PJM & MISO Subject Matter Expert.  She holds a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Utah.

 

Sakis Asteriadis
Managing Director

Mr. Asteriadis is a Managing Director in APX’s Environmental Markets area, where he oversees all aspects of APX’s infrastructure for greenhouse gas, renewable energy and energy efficiency commodities. He is responsible for the product and technology direction of the APX Environmental Market Depository™ infrastructure, as well as for the account management and operations for all APX’s Environmental Markets client engagements. In the past few years at APX, Mr. Asteriadis oversaw the business development, implementation and operation for all of APX's Greenhouse Gas and Renewable Energy Credits registries and tracking systems throughout the US and internationally.

Mr. Asteriadis joined APX in 2004, having 20 years of experience in the Energy and Financial Services sectors. Prior to APX, he was Vice President at the Bank of New York, where he was head of the Bank's BondNet division. Prior to that, he was at ESCA Corp (currently Areva T&D) where he led the deployment of numerous large-scale Energy Market Systems worldwide (such as ISO New England's Market System), and Energy Management Systems.

Mr. Asteriadis holds an M.Sc.E. degree from Purdue University and a B.Sc. degree in engineering from the University of Patras in Greece. He is located in New York City.
